In response to the theme of Anxiety I created a short film that is being shown at the 57th Venice Biennale in a satellite project devised and curated by Vanya Balogh. The resulting film is “The Pencil Test”. We are so used to the sexualised bodies of celebrities and porn stars that exposing a normal middle-aged body becomes a subversive act. Images of women’s nipples are banned from social media and some countries around the world put legal restrictions on what women can wear. I don’t agree with this: these corroding anxieties help neither men nor women.
